Washington, which had dropped four of five overall coming in, welcomed Alex Ovechkin back to the lineup as it pulled to within one point of idle Florida for the top spot in the Southeast Division. It was a 2-0 game with 1:22 to play in the first on Marchand's backhand from the low left side.

 

Bergeron brought the puck into the Washington end from the right side and at the point fired a pass over to the left point. Marchand held it there and dished it down to the front where Seguin redirected it past Vokoun.

Tomas Plekanec had a goal and an assist while Max Pacioretty and Alexei Emelin both scored for the Canadiens, who snapped a three-game slide.

 

With under two minutes to play in the first, the Canadiens took a 1-0 lead as a shot by Yannick Weber from the right point was stopped by Pavelec, but Pacioretty shoveled in the rebound for his 19th of the season.
