12/26/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A pair of Atlantic Division foes will square off tonight in Newark as the New Jersey Devils welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Prudential Center.
Just one point separates the Devils and Penguins in the standings, as Jersey is third in the division with 41 points and Pittsburgh is next with 40. The clubs have met three times already this season and the Devils are 2-1-0 in the series.
The Penguins have still taken three of five in the series, but the Devils have won five of the last nine meetings overall. Despite dropping two of three in New Jersey, the Pens have posted wins in five of their last seven stops in the Garden State.
The Devils had a three-game winning streak halted their last time out, as they dropped a home test with the Boston Bruins on Tuesday. Tim Thomas made 25 saves for his third shutout of the season, as Boston skated to the 2-0 victory.
Scott Clemmensen stopped 22-of-23 shots in defeat for the Devils, who were shut out for just the second time this season and for the first time since November 3 against Buffalo.
Tonight's test also marks the end of a four-game homestand for New Jersey, which is 2-1-0 so far on the residency. The Devils are 11-6-1 as the host this year and have won seven of their last nine home tests.
Following this evening's home test, the Devils will play their final three games of the 2008 calendar year away from the Garden State. The three-game swing will begin Saturday against the rival New York Rangers.
The Penguins were also blanked their last time on the ice, as Tampa Bay posted a 2-0 victory in the Steel City on Tuesday. Mike Smith needed to stop just 15 shots to record his second shutout of the season in a lackluster effort from the Pens.
Marc-Andre Fleury allowed both goals on 29 shots for the Penguins, who lost for the third time in five contests.
Evgeni Malkin registered a team-high five shots on goal, but still watched his nine-game point streak come to an end. Malkin leads the NHL with 58 points this year on 15 goals and 43 assists.
Sidney Crosby, who is second in the NHL with 47 points, has just one assist over his last three games.
The Penguins are 10-6-2 as the visiting team this season and they have won two straight road tests after dropping their previous three tilts as the guest.

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.
(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977. Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.
Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer. In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.
MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season. Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite. After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.
Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions. They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
