07/09/2010 - Knoxville, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The University of Tennessee football program dismissed Darren Myles Jr. and suspended Marlon Walls and Greg King indefinitely for their participation in a bar fight in Knoxville early Friday morning.
It was reported earlier Friday that six Tennessee players had been arrested in reference to the incident, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. Myles, a sophomore defensive back, was charged with assault, resisting arrest and evading arrest, while Da'Rick Rogers, a highly-touted incoming freshman receiver, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, per the paper citing the Knoxville Police Department.
Both were released from jail this morning after posting bond, but more charges could be on the way. The altercation sent two people to the hospital, one an off-duty police officer who was knocked unconscious and also reportedly kicked repeatedly while down.
"I am disappointed and in many ways embarrassed by the poor judgment displayed on many fronts by several members of our football team [Friday morning]," Volunteers head coach Derek Dooley said. "I am respectful of the process that follows with the local authorities and with our institutional guidelines and leadership. As I have referenced on many occasions, a change in culture is achieved in time through a combination of education, discipline and support."
While none of the six have been officially charged in the beating of officer Robert Capouellez, the paper cited University of Tennessee Police Department reports as pointing to Myles and Rogers along with fellow members of the football team -- John Brown, Matthew Milton and Denarious Moore -- as being involved in the incident. A sixth player, Montori Hughes, is being questioned.
It is unknown how Walls, a freshman linebacker, and King, a sophomore linebacker, were involved in the altercation.
Moore, a senior, was the second leading receiver for the Volunteers last year as a junior, totaling 540 yards on 40 catches with a team-high seven touchdown receptions. Brown is a junior college transfer defensive lineman while Milton was another top recruit at wide receiver. Both he and Rogers were expected to contribute in the passing game right away.
In November 2009, three Tennessee players were arrested in Knoxville on charges of attempted armed robbery after an early-morning incident at a gas station near the edge of campus. Two players in that incident were kicked off the team, while safety Janzen Jackson returned to the squad after a suspension.

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.
Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.
Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.
Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.
All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.
A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
